Onychogomphus uncatus (Charpentier, 1840)
DESCRIPTION
Slightly bigger than O. forcipatus (50-53 mm), it features as much big and similar male appendages, but their tips are not placed one upon another, the vertex is completely black and the two black posterior bands on the thorax are linked each other enclosing one or two yellow spots.
PHENOLOGY
In flight from May to September.
HABITAT
It can be observed mainly in habitats with shady and medium- or small-sized streaming waters, as canals and springs, but also along the rivers.
DISTRIBUTION
This is a species with range limited to the Iberian peninsula, southern France and some regions of Italy. Unlike the congener, this species in the Cuneo region is rare and localized in the Belbo valley.
